چکیده

We present the detailed analysis of the spontaneous emission coupling factor ( factor) of the microcavity based on a 2D photonic crystal in an optically thin dielectric slab. We investigate the maximum value that can be achieved with this microcavity and discuss its dependence on the quantum well position, as well as on the pumping area diameter. The analysis is performed using the general method for the factor calculation that we developed. The method is based on the classical model for atomic transitions in a semiconductor active medium. Finite di erence time domain (FDTD) method is used to solve the electromagnetic elds of the system and calculate the total radiated energy, as well as the energy radiated into the mode of interest.

Finite-Difference Time-Domain Calculation of the Spontaneous Emission Coupling Factor in Optical Microcavities

We present a general method for the factor calculation in optical microcavities. The analysis is based on the classical model for atomic transitions in a semiconductor active medium. The finite-difference time-domain method is used to evolve the electromagnetic fields of the system and calculate the total radiated energy, as well as the energy radiated into the mode of interest. We analyze the ...

Spontaneous-emission rate in microcavities: application to two-dimensional photonic crystals.

We present a simple, efficient procedure to compute the spontaneous-emission rate from short-time finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) data of the electromagnetic field energy in microcavities of arbitrary geometry. As an illustration, we apply this procedure to two-dimensional photonic crystals. For comparison, we calculate the local radiative density of states employing an unconditionally sta...

Modified spontaneous emission properties of CdS quantum dots embedded in novel three-dimensional microcavities

Modified spontaneous emission properties in the presence of confined photon modes inside the three-dimensional (3-D.) optical microcavities are demonstrated. Self-formed pyramidal-shaped semiconductor structures fabricated by selective-area growth technique are utilized as an optical microcavity in which discrete photon modes are generated. Noticeable modification of spontaneous emission from a...

The New Method for Optical Channel Drop Filter with High Quality Factor Based on Triangular Photonic Crystal Design

We have designed a new type of optical channel drop filter (CDF) based on two dimensionaltriangular lattice photonic crystals. CDF operation is based on coupling to the photonic crystalwaveguide. The proposed structure is optimized to work as a CDF for obtaining the CDFcharacteristics and band structure of the filter the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method andplane wave expansion (PWE) ...

Enhancement of the Spontaneous Emission Rates in All Porous Silicon Optical Microcavities

The emission properties of a porous silicon layer placed in an optical microcavity is investigated by photoluminescence and time resolved photoluminescence measurements. The microcavity is formed by an all porous silicon Fabry-Perot filter made by two distributed Bragg reflectors separated by a h or h/2 porous silicon layer. Our main findings are that the spontaneous emission spectrum is drasti...
